Usually you can enable/disable the prefetchers using the BIOS boot options. Look for something in the BIOS labeled hardware prefetch (probably under the CPU-related section of the BIOS screens). Hope this helps, Pat.
WebbPrefetching, in both hardware and software, is among our most important available techniques for doing so; yet, we claim that prefetching is perhaps also the least well-understood. Implemented PACMan-DYN across the applications for a diverse range of workloads. Based on LRU guidelines PACMan-M is implemented in such a way that all the prefetch misses move to the LRU position after re-referencing
Webb16 mars 2016 · Hardware prefetching is an important feature of modern high-performance processors. When the application working set is too large to fit in on-chip caches, disabling hardware pre-fetchers may result in severe performance reduction. A new prefetcher was recently introduced, the Sandbox prefetcher, that tries to find dynamically the best …

Prefetching can be done at any cache level. Level-1 (L1) and level-2 (L2) prefetching lead to different possibilities and tradeoffs, hence different sorts of prefetchers.
