In particular, it concerns the polar “jet stream” – a band of fast-flowing air high up in the atmosphere. The jet stream is a year-round feature of the weather in the mid-latitudes. WebbThe polar jet stream is located near the polar front about 10 km up, near 50° to 60° latitude. The difference in height of these jets is due to their location at the tropopause, and the fact that the tropopause is found higher in tropical regions than in polar regions due to average layer temperature differences of the troposphere underneath.
